Yoga doesn't teach you to always be okay. It teaches you to be okay with not always being okay. Bridge when the hips resist. Pigeon when emotions arise. Twists when the body holds tension. In each pose, the same choice: accept or resist. Santosha (contentment) is not toxic positivity disguised as philosophy. It's not pretending everything is alright. It's the difference between: “I should be grateful, there are those who have worse” (denial) and “This is difficult. And it's okay that it is.” (acceptance) Chakrasana teaches you to accept how far you can go each day. Kapotasana teaches you to welcome the emotions that arise, not push them down. Twists teach you to let go of what you can, not force it. When days are difficult, instead of looking for “the positive side,” I practice santosha: this is what it is. I don't need to like it. I just need to stop fighting against it. There is relief in that. Not joy. Relief. Which is more honest. Santosha doesn't eliminate pain. It eliminates resistance to pain. And it is resistance that prolongs suffering. It is present in every pose where you choose to accept instead of forcing.
