DHYANA After maintaining focus on a specific point and eliminating mental fluctuations with full, stable, and still concentration, we are practicing Dhyana, the seventh stage of Patanjali's Ashtanga Yoga. In Dhyana, we feel the fusion of time and space. The tranquil mind contemplates emptiness and becomes an observer of itself. Concentration on a single point becomes concentration on the whole, an active contemplation and a dissolution and integration into a place of total involvement with the Self. While Dhyana seeks to eliminate distractions and mental fluctuations, developing concentration on a specific point, Dhyana seeks to stabilize this flow of attention naturally, entering a state of contemplation and observation (ekatanata). Dhyana works on the deepest mental aspects, which reside in increasingly inner layers. More information about Dhyana can be found on the Yoga Sutras page at www.praticayoga.pt > Yoga > Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and in the article at www.praticayoga.pt > Meditation > Dhyana.
