For the past days we focused on throat and heart opening postures in my classes, iykyk And for me personally, expanding and stretching the throat area means much more than just dropping my head back for the sake of doing an asana. It is clear that the spine plays a major role in our bodies. It protects the spinal cord, which is essential for communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Especially the neck, the space between the chin and the chest is interesting because it is so often kept close, not only in yoga but also in life. The neck is a place of communication, it’s a place where shame and guilt can be stored, things we wish we could have said but we didn’t, things we were punished or blamed for, ideas how we should look and feel like. In a world that is filled with hate, comparison and judgement it is more important than ever to find our voice, to speak up, to know what our truth is and ultimately to be able to fully articulate it. I believe that its incredibly powerful to find expansion in an area that we tend to keep close, and its by far not just dropping the head back, its the action of holding it up with our own strength and determination.
