Yoga Life

Daya Lupinacci

We live in a world that emphasizes constant action and encourages us to always be busy. It has never been easier to find stimulation: we have our phones, internet, WhatsApp, Netflix, podcasts, audiobooks, YouTube, and so many other possibilities, which can be great. HOWEVER, there is so much stimulus that sometimes you don’t even have the mental space to truly enjoy them, making your mind more distracted than ever. How many times have you watched a movie while simultaneously checking your phone? How many times have you forgotten what you were about to do almost instantly? How many times have you reached for your phone when faced with silence, boredom, or space? Your brain is so full that it almost feels like it is about to explode. But guilt-tripping will not fight how modern society is organised. You can, however, acknowledge that that’s happening. Inner revolution starts small and consistently. What most people don’t know is that the right yoga practice will help you with that. At first, certain techniques of Yin Yoga or Yoga Nidra can be uncomfortable. When we face a situation where we have to remain still, it’s natural that our mind will fall into the same pattern, and try to find a distraction, or even create one. A few minutes later, however, is when the magic happens. You can actually learn about yourself, understand your thought connections, relax our brain, and get in touch with parts of yourself we might had no idea existed. And all you truly have to do is to show up. Yin is about doing less, so you don’t have to try controlling your thoughts, you just let them do their thing and watch what happens. Feeling constantly disconnected and tired shouldn’t be normal. In the modern world quality resting is an act of bravery and resistance. Revolution starts on the (yin)side
